EN: Children and adolescents from the eight neighborhoods of Iztapalapa enthusiastically attend the process of selecting characters for the Representation. They attend with the conviction of participating and preserving the tradition inherited by their ancestors.
EN: Since 1943, three generations of the Cano family have lent their home to become the COSSIAC headquarters and the place of learning and preparation for the participants.
EN: Since 1977 the Juárez family, dedicated to carpentry, has made the cross for the character of Jesus. A craftsmanship inherited along three generations, proud to create one of the main symbols of this tradition
EN: Annually, it is made to suit the person who represents Jesus, to whom it is given as a symbol of the Representation’s community brotherhood. Currently, it is made by Antonio Reyes, who inherited the knowledge from his father, Teodoro Reyes Neria.
EN: The families and residents of the eight neighborhoods of Iztapalapa organize and collaborate voluntarily in the preparations for the Representation. They clean, paint, decorate the streets and prepare refreshments for the participants.
EN: On the days of the Representation, the streets, squares and the churches of the eight neighborhoods are filled with colors and its residents come out with the excitement of being part of a tradition that they consider their own.
EN: Members of COSSIAC, supported by young people from the community, build large stages every year in the Macroplaza of the Cuitláhuac Garden, where the last days of Jesus are represented, in the presence of thousands of attendees.
EN: During the Representation, the residents of the eight neighborhoods of Iztapalapa approach the character of Jesus with faith, hope and devotion. At that moment they see him as a link with the divine.
EN: It is estimated that 2 million people annually come to the streets and squares of the center of Iztapalapa and Cerro de la Estrella, to witness the Representation of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ.
EN: The COSSIAC agrees with government entities on the mechanisms to carry out the Representation with all the necessary security and civil protection measures.
