Element Hudhud chants of the Ifugao (Philippines)

Inscribed in 2008 (3.COM) on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (originally proclaimed in 2001)

Title EN: Well known for their rice terraces and extensive knowledge of rice cultivation, the Ifugao perform the Hudhud chants during the sowing and harvest seasons and at funeral wakes. The chants are transmitted orally and tell about ancestral heroes, customary law, traditional practices and religious beliefs.
Title FR: Célèbre pour ses cultures en terrasse et sa connaissance approfondie de la riziculture, la communauté Ifugao entonne le Hudhud au moment des semailles et de la récolte du riz, ainsi que lors des veillées funèbres. Les chants, transmis oralement, évoquent les héros anciens, la loi coutumière, les pratiques traditionnelles et les croyances religieuses.
Title ES: Conocidos por sus arrozales en terrazas y su amplio conocimiento del cultivo del arroz, los ifugao interpretan los cantos Hudhud durante las temporadas de siembra y cosecha, así como en los velatorios.
