- Recalling Chapter I.12 of the Operational Directives,
- Decides to convene an open-ended intergovernmental working group to consider possible amendments to paragraph 41 of the Operational Directives regarding the modification of the name of an inscribed element, with a view to:
(i) ensuring that any request for a name modification be subject to the widest possible participation of the community, group, or, if applicable, individuals concerned and to their free, prior and informed consent;
(ii) forwarding the request to the Evaluation Body for its opinion prior to consideration by the Committee; and
(iii) ensuring that all documentation provided in support of such a request, as well as the Evaluation Body’s opinion, be provided to the Committee prior to its decision thereon;
- Requests that the Secretariat submit the amendments proposed by the open-ended intergovernmental working group for examination by the General Assembly at its eleventh session, provided that voluntary supplementary contributions to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund are received in due course, and in the meantime, further decides to encourage States Parties to refrain from requesting the modification of names until clear procedures have been established and the Operational Directives have subsequently been revised;
- Further requests that the Secretariat report on the situation for examination by the Committee at its twenty-first session.
